Mitchell Aerospace Case Study

Overview Mitchell Aerospace in St. Laurent, Quebec

Mitchell Aerospace Inc., located in St-Laurent, Quebec, is a manufacturer of of precision-engineered light alloy sand castings in aluminum and magnesium for aerospace and other specialty applications.

The Problem

As part of their manufacturing process, molded parts require refinement which can involve various applications such as grinding, deburring and finishing, all of which can generate toxic aluminum and magnesium dust that can lead to the following health hazards:

  • Eye and skin irritation on contact
  • Nasal, throat and lung irritation when inhaled
  • Metal fume fever
  • Upset stomach
  • Reduced lung function
  • Additionally, these dusts are highly combustible, leaving the facility vulnerable to potentially catastrophic consequences.

    The Solution

Since the solution had to be both versatile and compliant, while addressing physical limitations within their facility, an engineered solution was required to address the unique needs of Mitchell Aerospace. The chosen solution featured four (4) Monsoon Wet Downdraft Tables to safely capture the combustible dust at-source, along with customized ductwork connected to a central fan and control panel to operate all four Monsoon Wet Downdraft Tables.
